Graduate Certificate in Sustainability

Why study the Graduate Certificate in Sustainability at UNE?

The Graduate Certificate in Sustainability focuses on developing future leaders and managers of eco-service markets, such as carbon and water trading, and environmental sustainability issues, such as climate change.

Completing this course will give natural resource managers the foundations for meeting their legal and policy obligations and help them to minimize risks of litigation. The interdisciplinary coursework program will enable staff from consultancy groups, regional organisations (e.g. Catchment Management Authorities), and state and federal agencies to upgrade skills in this emerging and cross-disciplinary field, or facilitate a career change for those with discipline-based qualifications (e.g. teachers, lawyers, accountants).

The Graduate Certificate is the first level in a suite of courses that provide the opportunity for students to progress through a Graduate Diploma to a Master program. The possibility to qualify for enrolment in a Research Master or PhD exists if a thesis is undertaken in the Master program.

Please note: this course was previously known as Graduate Certificate of Environmental Systems, Markets and Climate Change.

Career Opportunities

Career opportunities include positions in a wide range of public and private sector organisations, including roles as managers, policy advisers, planning and research officers for state/federal government, government planning and environment departments, environmental protection agencies, cultural and natural heritage management, environmental conservation, land and water management, natural resource management, community development, commercial industry, environmental consultancies, mining, research careers with CSIRO, universities and industries.
