Graduate Certificate in Education Studies
Why study the Graduate Certificate in Education Studies at UNE?
The course will provide a pathway for candidates to pursue Master of Education study by reorientating or specialising in a range of areas including Literature and New Literacies. Some units are related to the School Curriculum, however these units are not intended for the purposes of teacher preparation in any particular method. Curriculum units in Mathematics; Social Science; Physical Education; English; Science, Creative Arts and Early Childhood can be undertaken in addition to units from other Graduate Certificate specialisations such as e-Learning; Indigenous Australian Education; International Schooling, Education and Development; School Leadership; Special Education; TESOL; and Gifted and Talented Education. A new specialisation in 'Career and Transition Education' is being added to this course. This specialisation, unlike others, does not articulate with the Master of Education program.
Note: Trimester 3 Off Campus: Part-time Only in General Program

Admission to Candidature
A candidate shall:

(e) comply with the University's English Language requirements.
Note: Students wishing to undertake the specialisation in Literature and New Literacies shall only be admitted under rules (a) and (b).
Advanced Standing
At the discretion of the School, on the recommendation of the course coordinator and except for (c), a candidate may be granted a maximum of 12 credit points of advanced standing for:
(a) units that have been counted towards another postgraduate qualification at this or another University;
(b) units that have not counted towards another postgraduate qualification that have been completed at another University; and
(c) there shall be no maximum advanced standing on the basis of units that have not counted towards another postgraduate qualification that have been completed at this University.
Period of Candidature
The period of candidature shall be:
(a) 0.5 year as a full-time candidate;
(b) up to two years as a part-time candidate.
Course Requirements
To qualify for the award a candidate must pass units to the value of 24 credit points at 400- or 500-level.

Award of Degree
A candidate who meets the course requirements shall be admitted to the Graduate Certificate in Education Studies.
A candidate who meets the course requirements and satisfactorily completes the units EDEE518, EDEE520, EDEE521 and EDEE523 shall be admitted to the Graduate Certificate in Education Studies (Literature and New Literacies).
A candidate who meets the course requirements and satisfactorily completes the units EDUC506, EDUC507, HSHM421 and either EDSP462 or EDSP244 shall be admitted to the Graduate Certificate in Education Studies (Career and Transition Education).
