Why study the Bachelor of Financial Administration at UNE?

Not offered to Domestic Students in 2012. Suggested alternative courses include the Bachelor of Business, Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting) or Bachelor of Financial Services.

This course is only available in 2012 to International Pathway Students.

The Bachelor of Financial Administration is an Accredited Undergraduate Course of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia, CPA Australia and Institute of Public Accountants. The degree covers introductory as well as advanced level units in financial and management accounting, finance, auditing, company and taxation law, information systems, economics and business statistics, while still allowing flexibility to engage with other subject areas to complement your accounting focus. This is the degree for students who want to pursue a career in accounting, but still have some flexibility to study in related areas.

The Bachelor of Financial Administration provides the opportunity for an exciting career in accounting, a field that offers challenge, variety and job satisfaction; an opportunity to travel and work overseas and the opportunity to diversify your career into various sectors of the business community.

Career Opportunities

Examples include positions in accounting, financial administration in corporate organisations, auditing, stockbroking, investment advising, small and medium enterprise management and careers in government departments such as trade and industry.

There are three major professional accounting bodies in Australia: CPA Australia, Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia (ICAA) and the Institute of Public Accountants (IPA). In order to satisfy the educational requirements for admission to the major professional accounting bodies, it is necessary to complete the following units in addition to the compulsory units for the degree: Advanced Financial Accounting, Auditing, Principles of Corporation Law, Principles of Taxation Law.

Entry Requirements

A candidate shall be qualified for admission (see Admission Rule Undergraduate Policy).

Assumed knowledge is any two units of English. For some units in the economics, finance and quantitative areas it is recommended that students have previously studied mathematics. Also Accounting, Economics and Business.

Admission to Candidature

A candidate shall be qualified for admission (see Admission Rule Undergraduate Policy).

Period of Candidature

The period of candidature shall be:
(a) three years as a full-time candidate;
(b) up to ten years as a part-time candidate.

Course Requirements

To qualify for the award a candidate must pass units to the value of 144 credit points with not more than 60 credit points at 100-level; at least 36 credit points at 300-level of which 24 credit points shall comprise units with an AFM prefix; and not more than 36 credit points from units outside the Faculty of the Professions.

Candidates shall complete an approved program of study as outlined in the Course Schedule comprising:

Award of Degree

Candidates who meet the course requirements shall be awarded the Bachelor of Financial Administration.

Exit Pathways

Candidates who discontinue their studies in the course may be eligible to exit with the Diploma in Business on completion of 48 credit points.
