Why study the Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood) at UNE?
After completing a Bachelor of Teaching (Early Childhood Education), or its equivalent, graduates may apply to continue studying at UNE for a fourth year Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood). This degree meets the new Australian Government requirements for Early Childhood Education, and will enable you to become a four-year trained Early Childhood teacher.

They also ensure you are treated as a 'person', not just a number, by supporting you and challenging you to achieve your personal best.
The career opportunities for early childhood graduates are increasing every year, especially in regional, rural and remote areas of Australia. The Australian Governments Early Childhood agenda includes increasing the number of degree qualified staff in the sector, and are offering HECS-HELP debt bonuses to eligible students (eligibility is based on the place of employment as an Early Childhood Teacher and is for people working in rural and remote areas). Please note: The Bachelor of Education (EC) is not recognised in NSW to teach in Primary schools.

This degree also provides the necessary qualifications for senior positions in early childhood such as, Director of a Centre and teaching in the VET sector. Graduates of the Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood) have a range of skills including organisational leadership, contemporary pedagogical understandings and interpersonal skills that are highly valued in all areas of life, not just early childhood occupations.

Admission to Candidature
A candidate shall hold a three-year Bachelors degree in Early Childhood recognised by the School as suitable for entry into the course.
If the degree for entry is not recognised as meeting the NSW Community Services requirements or other States equivalent, additional units of study may be needed. Applicants are responsible to check that their initial degree in addition to the Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood) will meet the requirements of employing bodies, accrediting organisations and licensing agencies.

Advanced Standing
Candidates are referred to the University Policy on Advanced Standing.
Period of Candidature
The period of candidature shall be:
(a) one year as a full-time candidate;
(b) up to four years as a part-time candidate.
Course Requirements
To qualify for the award a candidate must pass units to the value of 48 credit points.
