Honours candidates only. Only those students in the BA(Hons), BSocSc(Hons) or BSc(Hons) who have received a letter of offer into Honours in Psychology may enrol in this unit. BPsych(Hons) students enrol in this unit when commencing their honours component.

Unit Description

This unit comprises one half of the fourth-year honours program in psychology. It is completed by full-time students concurrently with PSYC402H or PSYC403H, and by part-time students before PSYC402H or PSYC403H. It comprises two advanced reading courses; seminars on professional roles and ethics, history and theories of psychology; and seminars on professional practice. Assessment is by way of seminar participation and written assignments. Students attend two mandatory intensive schools. The unit, when combined with PSYC402H or PSYC403H, provides a fourth year accredited by The Australian Psychology Accredication Council.

Learning Outcomes (LO) Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:
  1. show advanced understanding of two specific areas of psychological research and application;
  2. appreciate the historical foundations of psychology and the ethical responsibilities of psychological researchers and practitioners;
  3. show critical understanding of some of the more widely used cognitive and personality assessments;
  4. employ basic interviewing skills that relate to professional practice.
