Why study the Master of Strategic Organisational Development at UNE?

The Master of Organisational Development and Strategic Human Resource Management is specifically designed to meet the needs of professionals who are either currently practising or wish to practise in the field of organisational development and / or human resource management.

Learn to become:

A leader in organisational and individual change and learning. Understand what it takes to lead organisations to enact their strategic missions and to manage their human resources needs in complex and changing business environments.

A strategic intervention specialist. Make decisions and implement solutions involving human resources and organisational structures through cutting edge analysis and diagnosis.

A critical thinker around ethical issues involved in organisational development and change.

This program will develop a set of core competencies which will bring together human resource and organisational development themes and develop your understanding of strategic management issues. In addition students can undertake electives in specialist subjects. They must also apply their core and specialist competencies through the completion of a research project.

Entry Requirements

1. A candidate shall:

(a) have fulfilled all the requirements for admission to a degree or qualification of equivalent standing at this or another university or tertiary institution; or

(b) have completed the Graduate Certificate in Human Resource Management at this University with a minimum Credit grade average, normally in the first four units completed towards the Graduate Certificate.

2. In addition, applicants for admission to candidature must provide evidence of at least three years' work experience in a field of employment approved by the school on the recommendation of the Program Director.

3. Admission to candidature and the date of commencement of candidature shall be determined by the school.

4. After admission to candidature, a candidate shall have a program of study approved by the school on the recommendation of the Program Director.

Additional Requirements

Applicants will need to supply:

A personal statement explaining answers on the following:

1. Your most significant experiences or achievements to date.

2. Your long-term objectives and your expectations of this degree in fulfilling these objectives.

3. Where you see yourself five years from now.

4. Any other information you consider relevant to your admission.

Two Referee Reports will need to be submitted independently by 2 referees (friends and family members are not acceptable)

Advanced Standing

Advanced standing is available for other postgraduate study that has a reasonable correspondence with units prescribed for this degree.

Fast Track

The trimester system allows students to study over three teaching periods each year. Trimesters run from late January to April; mid May to late August and beginning of September to mid-December.

Admission to Candidature

1. A candidate shall:

Advanced Standing

At the discretion of the school on the recommendation of the Program Director, a candidate may be granted advanced standing for:
(a) up to 36 credit points on the basis of units that have been counted towards another postgraduate qualification at this or another university provided they have a reasonable degree of correspondence to units prescribed for the course work program and if, the candidate does not have a first degree, provided a minimum of Credit grade average is achieved in such units to the value of 24 credit points; or
(b) up to 36 credit points on the basis of postgraduate units that have not been counted towards any qualification provided they have a reasonable degree of correspondence to units prescribed for the course work program; or
(c) up to 36 credit points for other significant learning which the school considers equivalent to units prescribed for the course work program; or
(d) up to 24 credit points for units completed towards the Graduate Certificate in Human Resource Management at this University and, if the candidate does not have a first degree, provided a minimum of Credit grade average is achieved in these units.

Period of Candidature

1. The period of candidature shall be:
(a) 1.5 years as a full-time candidate;
(b) up to five years as a part-time candidate.

2. In exceptional circumstances, the faculty may, on the recommendation of the Program Director:
(a) grant leave of absence from candidature; or
(b) extend the period of candidature.

Course Requirements

To satisfy the requirements for the award, a candidate shall complete a program of study approved by the Program Director.

To qualify for the award a candidate must pass GSB units to the value of at least 72 credit points.

Program of Study

Candidates shall complete an approved program of study as outlined in the Course Schedule comprising:

Award of Degree

Candidates who meet the course requirements shall be awarded the Master of Strategic Organisational Development at the level of Pass.

Exemptions

1. At the discretion of the school and on the recommendation of the Program Director, a candidate may be granted exemption for units to the value of 36 credit points from all non-research units including GSB656. A candidate granted such exemption shall choose alternative units in consultation with the Program Director.

2. At the discretion of the school and on the recommendation of the Program Director, a candidate may be granted exemption for units to the value of 12 credit points from core units on the basis of relevant work experience.

Special Examination and Special Extensions of Time

A special examination or special extension of time may be granted at the discretion of the school on the recommendation of the Director.

Withdrawal

A candidate who withdraws from a unit after the final date for withdrawal prescribed by the school shall be recorded as having withdrawn with failure from that unit unless good cause is shown by the candidate to the school.
