Master of Nursing Practice

Why study the Master of Nursing Practice at UNE?

Subject to accreditation

Applicants apply through the 2012 Course and Unit Catalogue to commence in Summer 2011-2012.

This is a two-year full-time Masters level course leading to recognition as a professional nurse in NSW and by mutual recognition across Australia and New Zealand. This is an entry-level course designed for those with an existing Bachelor level qualification who are seeking a career change to the nursing profession. UNE offers a safe, pleasant rural environment for study and equips nursing graduates with the knowledge and skills to function in both metropolitan and rural healthcare settings. This is important as nursing staff shortages are more acute in the rural sector. UNE nursing graduates are well regarded by employers in the healthcare sector.

Note: The initial 2 units are only offered in 2011-2012 Summer or Trimester 3 and are available on campus only. If you receive advanced standing for these units (see below) you will commence your studies in Trimester 1 and have the option of studying on or off campus.

Advanced Standing

Applications for advanced standing cannot be assessed unless the units that you are seeking credit for are complete. Advanced standing may be given for students who hold a recognised non-nursing degree and who have completed and passed all of Year 1 of the UNE BNurs. Such students would have completed HHSC147 already and would get advanced standing for this, and would also be granted an exemption from HSNS206 ( the 7 other first year units would be deemed equivalent to this in this instance) and could enter the MNursPrac program from Sem 1 onwards. Students who have successfully completed any additional units in the UNE BNurs may be granted further advanced standing to the MNursPrac program but will also be required to complete EHPS590 as HSNS204 is not considered equivalent . All other Advanced Standing requests would be considered on an individual basis as per UNE policy.
