Why study the Master of Health Science at UNE?

This course provides existing health care professionals with a knowledge of the properties, desired effects and safety issues of the Western herbal medicines commonly prescribed and dispensed by health care professionals. The options for treatment relevant to a wide range of common conditions encountered by health care professionals and the selection of appropriate and individual treatments, including recommendations on dosage, are examined.

(b) hold the Graduate Diploma in Health Science (Herbal Medicine) from the University of New England.

Admission to Candidature

A candidature shall either:
(a) hold a degree of a university in a health related area and have a professionally recognised health qualification and full current practitioner membership of an appropriate professional association approved by the faculty; or
(b) hold the Graduate Diploma in Health Science (Herbal Medicine) from the University of New England.

Period of Candidature

For candidates admitted under Rule (a), the period of candidature shall be:
(a) 1.5 years as a full-time candidate;
(b) up to four years as a part-time candidate.

For candidates admitted under Rule (b), the period of candidature shall be:
(a) 0.5 years as a full-time candidate;
(b) up to two years as a part-time candidate.

Course Requirements

1. (a) To qualify for the award, a candidate admitted under Rule (a) must pass units to the value of 72 credit points as specified in Rules 1.(b).
(b) The course shall comprise:
(i) all units in Group 1;
(ii) the unit in Group 2; and
(iii) three units from Group 3; or any other unit approved by the course coordinator.

2. (a) To qualify for the award, a candidate admitted under Rule (b) must pass units to the value of 24 credit points as specified in Rules 2.(b).
(b) The course shall comprise:
(i) the unit in Group 2; and
(ii) three units from Group 3; or any other unit approved by the course coordinator.

Award of Degree

Candidates who meet the course requirements shall be awarded the Master of Health Science.
