The Master of Commerce is a coursework program, which provides an excellent means of obtaining advanced-level qualifications in business studies. The Master of Commerce provides a broadening course for those students wishing to extend their knowledge of business generally, or provides for specific career enhancement for those students seeking a greater concentration in a particular discipline. Students can enrol in areas such as accounting, finance, management and entrepreneurship.

Entry Requirements

To be eligible for admission in the Master of Commerce, a candidate must have completed a three year degree or its equivalent in a relevant discipline.

Applicants considered to be inadequately prepared for candidature may be advised to enrol in the Graduate Diploma or a Masters Qualifying program. Depending on circumstances and performance, such a candidate may be eligible to transfer to the Masters program.

Advanced Standing

The maximum advanced standing granted for units that have been successfully completed towards a postgraduate qualification at this or another university or institution is 24 credit points. Each application is decided individually, and applicants must provide documentation to support their application for advanced standing in each unit.

Fast Track

Summer school is available on full fee basis.

Off-campus students will study on a trimester basis which allows for three study periods in any calendar year

Admission to Candidature

A candidate shall:
(a) have fulfilled the requirements for admission to a degree or qualification of equivalent standing at this or another university or tertiary institution, provided that the degree or qualification
(i) is accepted by the school on the advice of the course coordinator as sufficient qualification for admission to the proposed course of study; and
(ii) required a minimum of three years' full-time study; or
(b) be accepted by the school on the advice of the course coordinator as satisfying the requirements of the Qualifying Course for Admission to Candidature for the Degree of Master.

Advanced Standing

At the discretion of the course coordinator, on the recommendation of the head of school or nominee, a candidate may be granted advanced standing for course work units only, passed prior to admission to candidature, provided that such units have reasonable correspondence with units offered in the Master of Commerce for up to 24 credit points, on the basis of units that have been successfully completed towards a postgraduate qualification at this or another University; or through other significant learning which the school considers equivalent to units prescribed for the Master of Commerce.

Period of Candidature

The period of candidature shall be:
(a) one year as a full-time candidate;
(b) up to four years as a part-time candidate.

Course Requirements

To qualify for the award a candidate must pass units to the value of 48 credit points.

Candidates shall complete an approved program of study as outlined in the Course Schedule comprising:

Award of Degree

Candidates who meet the course requirements shall be awarded the Master of Commerce.
