This course is designed primarily for graduates who have majored in other disciplines and wish to gain experience in the practical and theoretical application of resource management. It is also suitable for resource and environmental science majors who wish to specialise in a chosen field.

| Benefits | Concurrent Enrolment with the Bachelor of Science: After completion of two years of study (96 credit points) towards the degree of Bachelor of Science, students may enrol concurrently for the Graduate Diploma in Natural Resources. The Graduate Diploma will not be awarded until the Bachelor degree has been completed. Articulation from the Graduate Certificate in Natural Resources: On completion of the Graduate Certificate, students are able to articulate to the Graduate Diploma. All units counted towards the Graduate Certificate will count towards the Graduate Diploma. Articulation to the Master of Environmental Management: On completion of the Graduate Diploma, students are able to articulate to the Master of Environmental Management with 24 credit points (no more than 12 credit points at undergraduate level) of advanced standing for units completed towards the Graduate Diploma. Articulation to the Master of Natural Resources: On completion of the Graduate Diploma, students are able to articulate to the Master of Natural Resources with 24 credit points of advanced standing for units completed towards the Graduate Diploma. Admission to candidature for the Master of Resource Science: On completion of the Graduate Diploma at the level of at least Pass with Distinction, students are able to apply for admission to candidature for the degree of Master of Resource Science. The Master of Resource Science is a research-only degree. |

| Entry Requirements | A candidate shall: (a) hold a bachelor degree from a recognised University in a discipline related to Environmental Science or Environmental Management or Natural Resources; or (b) hold at least 12 credit points towards the Graduate Certificate in Natural Resources or Marine Science and Management or equivalent; or (c) satisfy the school by means of other qualifications and relevant experience of adequate preparation for candidature. |

| Advanced Standing | Advanced standing is not granted for units taken to meet course admission requirements (except for an approved articulation in the course). The maximum advanced standing shall be for units counting 24 credit points which are deemed to be equivalent to units offered by UNE and approved for the course comprising: (a) 24 credit points for units completed at UNE and not more than 12 credit points at undergraduate level; or (b) 24 credit points for units completed from another institution and not counted towards an awarded qualification; or (c) 6 credit points on the basis of considerable professional experience. (d) There shall be no maximum advanced standing on the basis of units completed at this University that have not counted towards a qualification. (e) There shall be no advanced standing awarded for NR595. |

Admission to Candidature
A candidate shall:

(b) hold at least 12 credit points towards the Graduate Certificate in Natural Resources or Marine Science and Management or equivalent; or
(c) satisfy the school by means of other qualifications and relevant experience of adequate preparation for candidature.
Advanced Standing
Advanced standing is not granted for units taken to meet course admission requirements (except for an approved articulation in the course).
The maximum advanced standing shall be for units counting 24 credit points which are deemed to be equivalent to units offered by UNE and approved for the course comprising:
(a) 24 credit points for units completed at UNE, and not more than 12 credit points at undergraduate level; or
(b) 24 credit points for units completed from another institution and not counted towards an awarded qualification; or
(c) 6 credit points on the basis of considerable professional experience.
There shall be no maximum advanced standing on the basis of units completed at this University that have not counted towards a qualification.
Advanced standing shall not be awarded for NR595.
Period of Candidature
The period of candidature shall be:
(a) one year as a full-time candidate;
(b) up to four years as a part-time candidate.
In exceptional circumstances and on the recommendation of the candidate's supervisor, the period of candidature may be extended.
Course Requirements
To qualify for the award a candidate must pass units to the value of 48 credit points.
NR595 can be included in the program of study, with head of school approval, if the student has located a suitable supervisor for the project.

Award of Degree
Candidates who meet the course requirements and who have successfully completed NR595 shall be awarded the Graduate Diploma in Natural Resources at the level of Pass or Credit or Distinction or High Distinction.
Candidates who meet the course requirements and who have not completed NR595 shall be awarded the Graduate Diploma in Natural Resources at the level of Pass.
Exit Pathways
Candidates who discontinue their studies in the course may be eligible to exit with the Graduate Certificate in Natural Resources on completion of 24 credit points.
