Why study the Graduate Diploma in Accounting at UNE?
The Graduate Diploma in Accounting is a course that will service the needs of students requiring up to eight units for accreditation with the professional accounting bodies. It can serve as an entry and exit point for the Master of Professional Accounting. The course comprises eight units (that is 48 credit points) and is usually used to supplement existing studies in accounting to satisfy the entry requirements of the professional accounting organisations. Subjects are drawn from the Master of Professional Accounting and may cover introductory as well as advanced units in accounting, finance, systems, law, auditing, economics and business statistics. The course is accredited by the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia, CPA Australia and the National Institute of Accountants.

The Graduate Diploma in Accounting is a course that will service the needs of students requiring eight or less units for accreditation with the professional accounting bodies. Once associate membership is obtained students can pursue the professional studies for full membership.

| Entry Requirements | 1. This course is available on a fee-paying basis only. 2. A candidate shall: (a) have fulfilled all the requirements for admission to a three-year degree or an equivalent qualification, acceptable to the school as sufficient qualification for admission to candidature; or (b) have completed the Graduate Certificate in Accounting or other Graduate Certificate as approved by the Program Director, with a minimum grade point average of 5, normally in the first four units completed towards the Graduate Certificate. 3. In addition, applicants for admission to candidature under Rule 2.(b) must provide evidence of at least three years' work experience in a field of employment approved by the school on the recommendation of the course coordinator. 4. An applicant for candidature shall apply to the Program Director on the prescribed form. 5. Admission to candidature and the date of commencement shall be determined by the school. 6. After admission to candidature, a candidate shall have a course of study approved by the school on the recommendation of the course coordinator. |

Admission to Candidature
1. This course is available on a fee-paying basis only.
2. A candidate shall:
(a) have fulfilled all the requirements for admission to a three-year degree or an equivalent qualification, acceptable to the school as sufficient qualification for admission to candidature; or
(b) have completed the Graduate Certificate in Accounting or other Graduate Certificate as approved by the Program Director, with a minimum grade point average of 5, normally in the first four units completed towards the Graduate Certificate.

Advanced Standing
At the discretion of the school, on the recommendation of the course coordinator, a candidate may be granted advanced standing for:
(a) up to 24 credit points on the basis of units that have been counted towards another postgraduate qualification at this or another University provided they have a reasonable degree of correspondence to units prescribed for the program of study and, if the candidate does not have a first degree, provided a minimum of Credit grade average is achieved in such units to the value of 24 credit points; or
(b) up to 24 credit points on the basis of postgraduate units that have not been counted towards any qualification provided they have a reasonable degree of correspondence to units prescribed for the program of study; or
(c) up to 24 credit points for other significant learning which the school considers equivalent to units prescribed for the program or study; or
(d) up to 24 credit points for units completed towards the Graduate Certificate in Accounting or other Graduate Certificate approved by the Program Director and, if the candidate does not have a first degree, provided a minimum grade point average of 5 is achieved in these units.
Period of Candidature
The period of candidature shall be:
(a) six 15-week trimesters of full-time study;
(b) up to twelve 15-week trimesters of part-time study.
In exceptional circumstances, the school may, on the recommendation of the course coordinator, extend the period of candidature for a period or periods totalling not more than four trimesters.
Course Requirements
To qualify for the award a candidate must pass units to the value of 48 credit points as approved by the course coordinator.

Award of Degree
Candidates who meet the course requirements shall be awarded the Graduate Diploma in Accounting.
Exit Pathways
Candidates who discontinue their studies in the course may be eligible to exit with the Graduate Certificate in Accounting on completion of 24 credit points from units specified in the course requirements. Such graduates who then wish to complete the Graduate Diploma in Accounting must re-apply for admission.
