Why study the Graduate Certificate in Natural Resources at UNE?
The Graduate Certificate in Natural Resources is the first award level of a fully articulated program which gives qualified applicants the opportunity for study at progressive levels: Graduate Certificate in Natural Resources, Graduate Diploma in Natural Resources; Master of Environmental Management or Master of Natural Resources.
This program is designed as a professional development course in areas relevant to natural resources and environmental management. The flexibility of the program gives candidates the opportunity to broaden or develop their professional knowledge and management skills in a chosen area of study.
The Graduate Certificate will be awarded at the level of Pass, Pass with Credit, Pass with Distinction or Pass with High Distinction depending on the level of academic achievement.
Please note: this course has been renamed the Graduate Certificate in Environmental Science in 2012.

The program is well suited to practising resource managers wishing to become involved in short-term retraining or staff development programs.

All units counted towards the Graduate Certificate will count towards the Graduate Diploma. Articulation to the Master of Natural Resources: On completion of the Graduate Diploma, students are able to articulate to the Master program with 24 credit points (no more than 12 credit points at undergraduate level) of advanced standing for units completed towards the Graduate Diploma. |

The maximum advanced standing shall be for units counting 6 credit points which are deemed to be equivalent to units offered by UNE and approved for the course comprising: (a) 6 credit points for units completed at UNE; or (b) 6 credit points for units completed from another institution and not counted towards an awarded qualification; or (c) 6 credit points on the basis of considerable professional experience. (d) There shall be no maximum advanced standing on the basis of units completed at this University that have not counted towards a qualification. |

Admission to Candidature
A candidate shall:
(a) hold a bachelor degree from a recognised University in a discipline related to Environmental Science or Environmental Management or Natural Resources; or
(b) satisfy the school by means of other qualifications and relevant experience of adequate preparation for candidature.
Advanced Standing
Advanced standing is not granted for units taken to meet course admission requirements (except for an approved articulation in the course).
The maximum advanced standing shall be for units counting 6 credit points which are deemed to be equivalent to units offered by UNE and approved for the course comprising:
(a) 6 credit points for units completed at UNE; or
(b) 6 credit points for units completed from another institution and not counted towards an awarded qualification; or
(c) 6 credit points on the basis of considerable professional experience.
There shall be no maximum advanced standing on the basis of units completed at this University that have not counted towards a qualification.
Period of Candidature
The period of candidature shall be:
(a) 0.5 year as a full-time candidate;
(b) up to two years as a part-time candidate.
Course Requirements
To qualify for the award a candidate must pass units to the value of 24 credit points from the listed units with no unit below 200-level or as approved by the course coordinator.
Program of Study
Candidates shall complete an approved program of study as outlined in the Course Schedule comprising:

Award of Degree
A candidate who meets the course requirements shall be awarded the Graduate Certificate in Natural Resources.
