Bachelor of Professional Studies

Why study the Bachelor of Professional Studies at UNE?

No longer offered. Currently enrolled students must complete this course by 31 December, 2020.

This course of study is designed to provide opportunities for professionals approaching mid-career, including public servants, military and police personnel or anyone who may be interested in upgrading their current qualifications into a degree. The program also caters for people who have completed school three to five years ago and are now interested in returning to study, either full time or part time after having been in the workforce for a few years. Although the course seeks to meet the needs of mature age students with three or more years of work experience, it does not exclude school leavers from enrolling in the degree.

The course aims to provide opportunities for students to acquire various professional skills depending on personal interests and career paths and to develop their skills of analysis, synthesis and problem solving. As well, concepts and skills specific to different programs of study may be developed further by specializing in one or even two named areas. The course improves students' understanding of the societal context of their career roles through the interdisciplinary study of contemporary issues for Australian society including institutional issues, ethics, leadership, management as well as the examination of issues with respect to cross-cultural and international relations. It also provides opportunities for students to enhance their understanding in areas relevant to their professional development by the negotiation of appropriate elective units.
