Why study the Bachelor of International Studies at UNE?

The central part of the course allows a broad grasp of contemporary international economy, society, politics and culture. Students then undertake more specialised studies in one of the areas listed below (see course structure). Language study included in the course allows choice from Chinese, French, German, Indonesian, Italian and Japanese.

Students also have the option of undertaking the Bachelor of International Studies (Advanced) degree, which involves an additional year of overseas study at a partner university.

Career Opportunities

The course provides a foundation for many careers requiring international and global understanding. Examples include positions in international government and non-government agencies, foreign affairs and the diplomatic service, trade and industry, travel, tourism, international sales and marketing.

Benefits

Students who have completed 96 credit points of the Bachelor of International Studies may apply for admission to the Bachelor of International Studies (Advanced). The Advanced (four year) version of the course provides for and requires a full year's study at an overseas partner university. Admission is with the permission of the Course Coordinator and the Head of the School.

Entry Requirements

A candidate shall be qualified for admission (see Admission Rule Undergraduate Policy).

Assumed knowledge is any two units of English.

Honours

Candidates who have successfully completed the Bachelor of International Studies may, on the recommendation of the head of school concerned, continue to an honours year. The honours program shall include advanced coursework and a dissertation.

Admission to Candidature

A candidate shall be qualified for admission (see Admission Rule Undergraduate Policy).

Period of Candidature

The period of candidature shall be:
(a) three years as a full-time candidate;
(b) up to ten years as a part-time candidate.

Course Requirements

To qualify for the award a candidate must pass units to the value of 144 credit points with not more than 60 credit points at 100-level and at least 36 credit points at 300-level.

Candidates shall complete an approved program of study as outlined in the Course Schedule comprising:
