Bachelor of Education
Why study the Bachelor of Education at UNE?
The Bachelor of Education is a graduate entry teacher education program. the program is only available to primary qualified applications who wish to update their qualification. The course develops the skills required to be sensitive to children's needs and to prepare relevant and effective education programs. It provides a strong theoretical foundation to underpin practical experience already gained to pursue a satisfying career in one of the largest professions in our community.
Teacher Registration: UNE bases its degree structures on the NSW Institute of Teachers guidelines for teacher registration (website: http://www.nswteachers.nsw.edu.au/). It is the responsibility of each student to check their eligibility to teach with the relevant state authority (including students who intend to teach in NSW).

| Entry Requirements | A candidate shall: (i) hold a degree of a university and a diploma in an area of education studies; or (ii) hold a three year teaching qualification recognised by the school as suitable for the program; or (iii) hold three-year status with an appropriate educational authority except where that status is awarded wholly on the basis of service. English Language Proficiency At least one of the following criteria must be met: A1. English is the applicant's first language; or A2 Satisfactory completion, no more than 5 years prior to the date of application for admission to UNE, of at least one year of full-time or equivalent full-time study at senior secondary, post-secondary or tertiary level in a country in which English is the primary official language or co-official language and in which English was the sole medium of instruction and assessment for the particular period of study claimed, resulting in an Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) award or an award recognised by the National Office of Overseas Skills Recognition (NOOSR); or A3. Satisfactory completion, no more than 5 years prior to the date of application for admission to UNE, of at least one year of full-time or equivalent full-time study at senior secondary, post-secondary or tertiary level in an institution in which English is the sole medium of instruction and assessment for the particular period of study claimed, resulting in an Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) award or an award recognised by the National Office of Overseas Skills Recognition (NOOSR); or A4. (a) An IELTS (Academic) overall score of at least a minimum overall score of 7.5 including a minimum result of 8.0 in both the speaking and listening modules and 7.0 in reading and writing; or (b) A Professional English Assessment for Teachers (PEAT) result of Band A in each of the four areas: speaking, listening, reading and writing; or (c) An International Second Language Proficiency Rating (ISLPR) score of at least 4+ in each of the four areas: speaking, listening, reading and writing. |

| Practical, Clinical or Work Experience | There is no practicum included in the course. However, candidates applying for entry into the Bachelor of Education are usually employed in the field and wish to upgrade their qualifications. The units offered take into consideration prior learning and their experience. |

| Advanced Standing | Candidates for the Bachelor of Education bring with them a range of experiences and training, and are employed as a teacher at the time of enrolment. Candidates may present with 20+years of teaching or less than five years of teaching. To preserve the integrity of the 3YT program, and to ensure that all applicants are able to demonstrate the current NSWIT area requirements no advanced standing will be granted |

Admission to Candidature

Advanced Standing
No advanced standing will be granted.
Period of Candidature
The period of candidature shall be:
(a) one year as a full-time candidate;
(b) up to four years as a part-time candidate.
Course Requirements
To qualify for the award a candidate must pass units to the value of 48 credit points.

Award of Degree
Candidates who meet the course requirements shall be awarded the Bachelor of Education.
