Why study the Advanced Diploma in Nursing at UNE?
On campus and off campus study is offered in the second year of this course.
Nurses are respected, highly skilled health professionals who really make a difference to people's lives. The rewards of such work are immeasurable and the career options diverse. Nurses work in a wide variety of settings on every continent, from hospitals to schools to cruise ships. They work in busy emergency departments, they jump out of helicopters as members of retrieval teams and they care for those at that beginning and the end of their lives. Nurses are men and women who care, support and advise people with health concerns. The study of nursing encompasses a knowledge base that prepares graduates to deliver holistic care to all who require it. Nursing includes the study of core nursing skills and knowledge as well as bioethics, the legal basis of nursing practice, biological sciences, therapeutic communication, health promotion, education and nursing leadership.
Year 1 is an on-campus year, while year 2 is delivered either on-campus or via blended learning with includes intensive schools, online learning and clinical practice blocks.

| Entry Requirements | A candidate shall: (a) be qualified for admission (see Admission Rule Undergraduate Policy), and if admitted on the basis of an Australian school-leaving qualification, have achieved a standard set by the faculty in English and a science subject in that school-leaving qualification; or (b) successfully undertake an interview conducted by a panel of UNE academic registered nurses. English Language requirements: For Nursing awards an overall IELTS (Academic) score of 6.5 with no sub-band score less than 6.0 (or equivalent TOEFL score of at least 91 in the Internet-Based Test with no less than 22 in the written component and 20 in Listening, Speaking and Reading). |

| Additional Requirements | Current Senior First Aid Certificate. Before commencing study and prior to attendance at UNE students need to ensure that they are appropriately vaccinated as per NSW Health policy. www.health.nsw.gov.au/ohs_vaccination . NSW Health require all students to be fully vaccinated and provide evidence of their vaccination status plus provide evidence of protection against the following: adult diphtheria, tetanus and pertussis, hepatitis B (all hepatitis B vaccinations must have been completed well before the commencement of the course), measles, mumps and rubella (MMR), varicella (chicken pox). Screening for tuberculosis will be organised at UNE Provide evidence of National Criminal History Record Check and obtain a National Police Certificate. | Practical, Clinical or Work Experience | Candidates must complete 18 -19 weeks of clinical practice, which is undertaken in each semester in health facilities in NSW. Clinical practice has been organised in block placements throughout the four semesters of the course. Clinical placements occur in most area health services of NSW. |

| Advanced Standing | Nursing students who seek Advanced Standing based on previous nursing studies undertaken at UNE or another university are assessed not just on unit equivalence but also on recency of study and clinical practice. If previous studies are more than three years old, students may be required to repeat portions of the equivalent unit, in particular the clinical practice requirements. This is in accordance with the requirements of the Nurses and Midwives Board of NSW. |

Period of Candidature
The period of candidature shall be:
(a) two years as a full-time candidate;
(b) up to five years as a part-time candidate.
Course Requirements
To qualify for the award, a candidate must pass units to the value of 96 credit points.

Award of Degree
