Unit Description

This unit is based on a dissertation. Students are required to research and write a dissertation on a topic in Women's and Gender Studies. The approved topic is to be developed in consultation with the unit coordinator, and their supervisor.

Learning Outcomes (LO) Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:
  1. demonstrate an ability to formulate questions pertaining to Women's and Gender Studies;
  2. demonstrate higher order, independent research skills;
  3. demonstrate advanced analytical abilities, in combining a broad range of research materials, often from several media, in order to answer their thesis question;
  4. demonstrate the ability to write up an extended research dissertation, based upon the student's own question and independent research;
  5. demonstrate an understanding of methodological issues and a broad knowledge of the overall subject area relating to Women's and Gender Studies;
  6. produce a sustained feminist analysis of a chosen aspect or area of inquiry into gender and/or sexuality.
