Unit Description

This unit aims to consolidate and enhance the academic and professional skills required by students in the complex range of communicative situations they will encounter in tertiary education institutions. The unit is entirely project-based, and utilises the skills covered in TLIP112, TLIP113, TLIP114 and FNDN101 and FNDN102. Students will be required to organise a conference which will include all administrative as well as academic activities involved in the organisation and presentation at the conference.

Learning Outcomes (LO) Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:
  1. demonstrate project management and administrative skills relating to conference organisation;
  2. communicate (in writing/ orally) fluently and effectively in formal and informal academic and professional contexts relating to conference organisation and paper/ presentation;
  3. write an abstract and conference paper on a chosen topic relating to intended disciplinary study;
  4. present a conference paper to an audience on a chosen topic related to their intended disciplinary study;
  5. evaluate performance of self and others using criteria such as pronunciation, delivery, content, logical structure, effective signposting;
  6. work effectively in a team to complete tasks related to conference organisation.
