Unit Description

This unit teaches students to critically evaluate psychological research and introduces them to several advanced statistical techniques commonly used in the discipline. After completing the unit, students will be able to use SPSS to conduct a range of statistical analyses including: ANOVA, multiple regression, discriminant function analysis, MANOVA, and factor analysis. Students enrolling in the unit must have access to the internet and a computer capable of running SPSS.

Learning Outcomes (LO) Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:
  1. critically evaluate research in the psychological literature;
  2. select appropriate data analytic strategies to apply to a wide range of research problems and data sets;
  3. use SPSS to conduct several advanced statistical analysis including: ANOVA, multiple regression, discriminant function analysis, MANOVA, and factor analysis;
  4. correctly interpret the SPSS output for each of the statistical procedures covered in the unit;
  5. write APA style research reports that summarise the results associated with each of the statistical procedures covered in the unit.
