Unit Description

In this unit, students will develop skills in the design, conduct and critical evaluation of organisational research. A diverse range of research paradigms and methods, design and measurement issues and data gathering and analytic strategies will be explored. Qualitative and quantitative approaches will receive balanced attention. The unit will stress how to synergistically combine quantitative and qualitative approaches to achieve research aims. A critical emphasis will be on the interdependence between business contexts, research goals and methods/analytic choices.

Learning Outcomes (LO) Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:
  1. identify, review and critically evaluate an appropriate body of organisational research and related literature;
  2. set out appropriate organisational research questions/hypotheses for investigation;
  3. design an appropriate study to investigate those questions/hypotheses;
  4. design the sampling scheme, procedures and/or instruments needed to collect data;
  5. plan for the types of data analyses that will be required; and
  6. write a coherent and well-argued organisational research proposal.
