| Unit Description |
The languages of Asia are both linguistically fascinating, and of great practical and cultural importance to the global environment of the 21st century. This unit overviews the diversity of languages in Southeast Asia and East Asia, and describes the main sociocultural and linguistic similarities and differences among them. The unit teaches appropriate linguistic techniques for analysing characteristic features of many of these languages, such as tones, classifiers, serial verb constructions, honorifics, and non-alphabetic scripts. Both national and minority languages are covered. The unit is supported by a variety of online tools including online assessment. Web access is essential. |
