Unit Description

Honours in Linguistics allows qualified students to take their studies to a higher level in a specific area of Linguistics. LING401H involves four integrated components of course work, which together give an overview of the discipline, and cover theoretical and methodological aspects related to the student's area of specialisation. The area of specialisation is chosen in consultation with the discipline in relation to the expertise of available staff (listed on the discipline website). Students who obtain a good grade in Honours are equipped to continue to a higher degree in Linguistics.

Learning Outcomes (LO) Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:
  1. understand the methodological approaches and issues pertaining to Linguistics;
  2. use advanced analytical skills in Linguistics;
  3. apply a broad knowledge and understanding of Linguistics;
  4. apply advanced competence in technical skills of Linguistics and ability to apply this skill in a range of areas;
  5. construct and compose or present substantial written and oral arguments and descriptive accounts of languages and speaker behaviour.
