Unit Description

This unit deals with intensive study of the skills of reading and writing. In JAPN312 students are required to undertake extensive reading in Japanese in a variety of additional genres (including some authentic texts) and also to complete guided/focussed writing tasks in additional text types. As part of their studies in this unit, students will learn approximately 100-120 new characters from the second half of the 1006 Kyôiku kanji.

Learning Outcomes (LO) Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:
  1. display reading skills and strategies in a variety of new genres (including some authentic texts) through extensive reading practice;
  2. display writing skills in a variety of new genres through extensive guided/focussed writing practice;
  3. show knowledge of 100-120 new characters from the second half of the Kyôiku kanji, and;
  4. indicate awareness of aspects of Japanese society and culture relevant to inter-cultural communication at this level.
