Unit Description

This unit acquaints students with the works of the major authors of 19th-Century Italy, tracing the development of Italian literature from the end of Romanticism to the development of modern narrative.

Learning Outcomes (LO) Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:
  1. critically analyse literary texts;
  2. display an advanced knowledge of 19th Century Italian literature;
  3. demonstrate an advanced knowledge of the socio-political situation of modern Italy;
  4. demonstrate a greatly expanded Italian language ability through the reading of modern Italian texts;
  5. show a greater critical acumen and provide fuller critical apparatus than those students undertaking the unit at 300-level.
