Unit Description

This unit extends the knowledge gained in ITAL101 of the structure and function of the Italian language. Students' knowledge of grammar and syntax will be extended, along with a greater awareness of Italian culture through texts.

Learning Outcomes (LO) Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:
  1. demonstrate a more complete understanding of the structure and function of the Italian language, as study of this unit will acquaint the student with grammatical forms and structures not dealt with in ITAL 101 such as the future, future perfect, imperfect, pluperfect, and conditional tenses, subjunctive modes, uses of the infinitive, gerunds and syntactical forms;
  2. practise the use of modern Italian language, in particular in regard to the above grammatical structures but also in regard to the use of forms and expressions used in colloquial interaction;
  3. gain further experience of Italian culture through the use of texts for language practice dealing with various aspects of Italian history, arts and lifestyle;
  4. continue and further the experience of language acquisition to facilitate future language and non-language learning.
