| Unit Description |
This unit presents counselling micro skills and examines interpersonal skills in relation to counselling theory and practice. Students will be exposed to the communication skills used in professional practice as a social worker. Skills will be taught through group learning during the residential school and practiced via the use of video taping and reflexive learning.

Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:

Knowledge of a Discipline
This is a core unit of the Bachelor of Social Work and specifically addresses theory and practice in relation to the discipline of social work and is assessed in assessment tasks 1 and 2.

Communication Skills
This unit teaches students counselling and interpersonal skills which are practiced at the residential school and assessed in assessment task 2. Co-operative peer feedback will be an important part of tutorial/online discussion as students develop their understanding of the unit material and are assessed in assessment task 3.

All social work theory and practice units are taught in the problem based learning framework where students are expected to make use of a variety of sources of information and contribute to group learning.

All social work theory and practice units are taught in the problem based learning framework where students are exposed to a problem and are expected to make use of a variety of sources of information to examine the biopsychosocial implications of the case study.
