Unit Description

This unit examines human development across the lifespan to further social work students understanding of the changing needs of individuals in relation to their broader relationships with family, community, and society. Particular attention is paid to the biopsychosocial model to assess need at different life stages and the role of the social worker.

Learning Outcomes (LO) Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:
  1. demonstrate an understanding of the main developmental and physical phases that individuals pass through from birth to death;
  2. assess the needs of individuals at different stages across the lifespan;
  3. demonstrate an understanding of how individuals needs are influenced by the community and the broader society in which they live;
  4. assess the role of the social worker across the lifespan;
  5. use online technologies to communicate developing ideas with peers.
