Unit Description

This unit introduces social work students to the role of the social worker through the use of case studies with a particular focus on the needs of, and issues affecting, rural communities. This unit also prepares students with the necessary academic skills for a professional degree in social work. Students will be presented with the Australian Association of Social Workers Code of Ethics as the foundation framework in which they interpret ethical practice throughout their education and future professional practice.

Learning Outcomes (LO) Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:

  2. identify and apply a variety of psychological and sociological theories to understand the needs and challenges of groups of people and the ways in which social workers practice in rural communities;

  5. show competency in contributing to online topical discussion issues related to learning materials.
