Unit Description

This unit is designed to introduce students, in a very broad way, to the main features of industrial relations in Australia. The initial focus is on industrial conflict. Attention is then devoted to the main institutions concerned with its generation and regulation, ie trade unions, employers, industrial tribunals and other forms of state intervention. Finally, some contemporary issues, such as award restructuring, enterprise bargaining, occupational health and safety and disadvantaged groups in the labour market, are considered.
