Knowledge of a Discipline
In this unit students will acquire the ability to speak and understand German.

Communication Skills
In this unit students will learn to communicate effectively in the various registers of German. In class, and for off-campus students via the Bulletin Board, students will also discuss linguistic problems in English, thus furthering their overall communication skills.

Global Perspectives
Through reading texts from a variety of sources, students will gain a deeper understanding of the cultures of Germany, Austria and Switzerland which will require them to see their own cultures in a global context.

Information Literacy
As part of this unit, students will use CALL programs. The unit will also reqauire the students to use email and the Discussion Board.

The unit encourages students to develop a lifelong interest in learning, particularly about the German language and German culture.
