Unit Description

This Second Semester core language unit is the continuation of FREN301. It aims to bring students to a point where they may competently read and understand, and accurately write and speak, an advanced level of French. As context for this language acquisition, it also includes the study of a French literary text.

Learning Outcomes (LO) Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:
  1. recognize, analyse and use a wide range of grammatical structures in French;
  2. communicate in French, both written and oral, more effectively, and with greater accuracy than previously, using structures and vocabulary learnt whilst studying the prescribed texts and films;
  3. demonstrate an increased understanding of spoken French;
  4. demonstrate a substantial awareness of the historical and socio-cultural context and terminology in which the texts and/or films under analysis were produced;
  5. argue a case in written French in answer to a question based on the assigned texts;
  6. use monolingual and bilingual dictionaries to search for meanings, synonyms and nuances of meaning.
