Unit Description

This second semester core language unit is the continuation of FREN201. It aims progressively to bring students to a point where their intermediate level skills in reading, understanding, writing and speaking will equip them for advanced level study in French language and literature. Students must own or have access to a CD player. Students must also have regular access to the Internet with an up-to-date browser, capable of supporting 'Blackboard (CE 6) and iLrn: Heinle Learning Center'. Off-campus students must have regular access to a cassette recorder (standard sized cassettes).

  1. translate several paragraphs at intermediate level;
  2. use complex sentence structures in all tenses and moods for prose writing;
  3. properly use a detailed bilingual dictionary;
  4. read lengthy excerpts from French and Francophone literature and use skills gained to develop reading comprehension and appreciation of French literature;
  5. demonstrate aural comprehension and oral production of French, spoken in a variety of contexts at a reasonable level of competence;
