Unit Description

This unit aims to develop pre-service teachers' knowledge base for the psychology of music teaching and learning in secondary schools, which will enable them to understand their students better and make informed decisions in the secondary school context. The unit includes reading research studies on various topics relating to secondary music teaching, such as creativity, musical aptitude, visual thinking in sound, musical tastes, musical identity, gender and instrument choices, music and the brain, deliberate practice, self-regulation, choral conducting, musical beliefs, and aesthetic issues in music education.

  2. demonstrate an in-depth understanding of pedagogical skills and knowledge for teaching Secondary Music;
  3. incorporate a wide range of teaching resources and innovative strategies in learning and teaching activities;
  4. adjust to diverse teaching contexts and student needs through problem solving skills and reflections; and
  5. make classroom environment that facilitates problem solving skills and creativity through musical activities.
