Unit Description

This unit aims to develop pre-service teachers' Information and Communication Technology (ICT) skills for secondary music teaching using selected computer programs commonly used in secondary schools, effective music freeware, and useful music websites. The unit includes practicing selected computer programs such as Finale, Sibelius, and Band-in-a-Box; exploring music freeware such as Finale NotePad and Audacity; and gathering information about useful music websites such as ArtsAlive, NSW Board of Studies websites for HSC Music Standards Packages and NSW HSC Online Resources.

Learning Outcomes (LO) Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:
  1. demonstrate an in-depth understanding of Music ICT skills and knowledge for teaching Secondary Music;
  2. use ICT confidently for teaching secondary music using selected music computer programs for composing, notating and recording music, such as Finale, Sibelius, and Band-in-a-Box;
  3. use ICT confidently for teaching secondary music using effective music freeware for recording and editing sound, such as Finale Notepad and Audacity;
  4. use ICT confidently for teaching secondary music using useful websites for music history, musical instruments, musical vocabulary, and other resources, such as The Internet Public Library and ArtsAlive; and
  5. incorporate a range of teaching resources and innovative strategies in learning and teaching activities.
