Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:

integrate the elements of Dance, Drama, Music and Visual Arts Education into teaching/learning experiences appropriate for K-6 classrooms;

further develop and practice skills, techniques and knowledge unique to each of the Creative Arts strands;

investigate the ways that the Creative Arts can accommodate individual learning styles and needs in the classroom;

develop a more complete understanding of the aims, objectives and outcomes of the K-6 Creative Arts syllabus relevant to their own state;

articulate the role of Creative Arts education as an integrating force across the curriculum; and
-
articulate the role of the Creative Arts as a positive force for humanities education.

Knowledge of a Discipline
This unit aims to provide a model for integration in and through the Creative Arts, specifically, the Drama, Music, Visual Arts and Dance strands of the Creative Arts K-6 syllabus and provide students with models for structuring cross-disciplinary learning and teaching within the Creative Arts.

Students will be assessed on their ability to develop creative arts programs and effectively teach a program of lessons that focus on a chosen theme through music, visual arts, drama and dance.

Students will be assessed on their ability to integrate and develop a teaching program after reading and researching the issues and challenges of teaching creative arts from a global perspective.

Students will be taught and assessed on their practical and literacy skills in visual arts, music and drama. This includes performance, making and appreciating.

The unit teaches the need for students to continue to search, develop and hone skills and knowledge in the creative arts so that they can effectively engage children in the classroom through the creative arts disciplines.

This requires lateral thinking in terms of the crowded curriculum and the limited skills teachers have across the arts disciplines. The students are assessed in their first assignment to look at the global perspectives for teaching creative arts in the primary classroom. The ways creative arts can facilitate can accommodate individual learning styles and individual needs in the classroom; the unit also aims to articulate the role of Creative Arts as a positive force for humanities education.

Team Work
The unit is focused on integrating the elements of dance, drama, music and visual arts education into teaching/learning experiences appropriate for K-6 classrooms. This requires students working together to produce a series of lessons and activities that includes music, art and drama making/performing.
