Unit Description

EDAE124 and its companion unit, EDAE224, are designed to prepare students for teaching the Creative Arts Key Learning Area within the primary school context. EDAE224 will address the Creative Arts curriculum in general terms, but with a particular focus on the Music and Dance strands. The unit aims to equip students with the practical skills, knowledge, and understanding necessary for the development and implementation of teaching programs in the Creative Arts.

Learning Outcomes (LO) Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:
  1. demonstrate knowledge of the curriculum documents pertaining to the Creative Arts and a practical understanding of the content relevant to the NSW K-6 Syllabus (with a focus on Music and Dance);
  2. demonstrate an understanding of how students learn in the Creative Arts and a knowledge of pedagogies relevant to the Creative Arts disciplines of Music and Dance;
  3. apply knowledge and skills in creating an effective learning environment, and in using a range of teaching strategies and resources appropriate to K-6 Creative Arts (Music and Dance);
  4. demonstrate a practical understanding of the processes involved in effective curriculum development in relation to planning, programming, assessment, reporting, and evaluation, relevant to implementation of Music and Dance strands of Creative Arts, in accordance with the mandatory curriculum documents;
  5. demonstrate an understanding of the place of the Creative Arts within the school and the wider community, and the contribution the Creative Arts makes to students' personal, social and intellectual development; and
  6. demonstrate evidence of achievement of relevant Graduate Teacher Standards.
