Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:
-
demonstrate knowledge of the curriculum documents pertaining to the Creative Arts, and a practical understanding of the content relevant to the NSW K-6 Syllabus (with a focus on Visual Arts and Drama);
-
demonstrate an understanding of how students learn in the Creative Arts and a knowledge of pedagogies relevant to the Creative Arts disciplines of Visual Arts and Drama;
-
apply knowledge and skills in creating an effective learning environment, and in using a range of teaching strategies and resources appropriate to K-6 Creative Arts (Visual Arts and Drama);
-
demonstrate a practical understanding of the processes involved in effective curriculum development in relation to planning, programming, assessment, reporting, and evaluation, relevant to implementation of the Visual Arts & Drama strands of Creative Arts, in accordance with mandatory curriculum documents;
-
demonstrate an understanding of the place of the Creative Arts within the school and the wider community, and the contribution the Creative Arts make to students? personal, social and intellectual development: and
-
apply their understanding of occupational health and safety issues as they relate to Creative Arts teaching and learning in primary schools, specifically drama and visual arts activities.

Knowledge of a Discipline
This unit teaches knowledge of the Creative Arts discipline through practical and theoretical means. Discipline knowledge is assessed in Assignments 1 and 2.
