N/A N/A Mandatory Intensive School held only when unit is offered off campus. EDAE124 (Creative Arts Curriculum Studies 1) and EDAE224 (Creative Arts Curriculum Studies 2) share a single intensive school which is coordinated so that students enrolled in these units can be attending workshops and lectures for both units without conflicts in scheduling. Students are therefore strongly advised to enrol in both EDAE124 and EDAE224 together in the same year to avoid having to attend two separate intensive schools.

Unit Description

EDAE124 and its companion unit, EDAE224, are designed to prepare students for teaching the Creative Arts within the primary school context. EDAE124 will address the Creative Arts in general terms, but with a particular focus on the Visual Art and Drama strands. The unit aims to equip students with the practical skills, knowledge, and understanding necessary for the development and implementation of teaching programs in the Creative Arts.

Learning Outcomes (LO) Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:
  1. demonstrate knowledge of the curriculum documents pertaining to the Creative Arts, and a practical understanding of the content relevant to the NSW K-6 Syllabus (with a focus on Visual Arts and Drama);
  2. demonstrate an understanding of how students learn in the Creative Arts and a knowledge of pedagogies relevant to the Creative Arts disciplines of Visual Arts and Drama;
  3. apply knowledge and skills in creating an effective learning environment, and in using a range of teaching strategies and resources appropriate to K-6 Creative Arts (Visual Arts and Drama);
  4. demonstrate a practical understanding of the processes involved in effective curriculum development in relation to planning, programming, assessment, reporting, and evaluation, relevant to implementation of the Visual Arts & Drama strands of Creative Arts, in accordance with mandatory curriculum documents;
  5. demonstrate an understanding of the place of the Creative Arts within the school and the wider community, and the contribution the Creative Arts make to students? personal, social and intellectual development: and
  6. apply their understanding of occupational health and safety issues as they relate to Creative Arts teaching and learning in primary schools, specifically drama and visual arts activities.
