Unit Description

This unit follows on from CHIN101, and continues students' introduction to Modern Standard Chinese. It develops students' listening and speaking skills, and introduces them to a wider variety of situations of language use and language patterns. Students will expand their vocabulary and double the number of characters they can read and write.

Learning Outcomes (LO) Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:
  1. use Chinese appropriately in simple conversations on topics including home, study, daily routines and future plans;
  2. recognise and produce the tones of Modern Standard Chinese with increasing accuracy;
  3. read and write simple passages in Chinese of at least 150 characters in length;
  4. understand and answer questions in spoken Chinese on a known topic;
  5. recognise and write at least 600 words in Chinese characters.
