Accounting Information Systems has an integrated approach to all topics providing solid foundations in information technology, business processes, strategic management e-commerce, security and internal control.

Learning Outcomes (LO) Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:
  1. appreciate the complex, dynamic environment in which accounting is practiced, in particular the accountant's role in accounting information systems;
  2. be acquainted with the AIS and its relationship to the organisation's business processes;
  3. understand the attributes of information and how they are linked to decision making;
  4. recognise information and how it is used for different types of decisions and at various organisational levels;
  5. describe and illustrate enterprise systems, understanding the modules that make up such a systems and the relationship the system has to organisation goals;
  6. appreciate the impact of e-commerce (e-business) on business processes;
  7. document information systems, use database management systems, relational databases and sql;
  8. understand the internal control processes as applied to business processes; and
  9. apply knowledge to the following business processes: oe/s, b/ar/cr, purchasing process, ap/cd, hr, ipp and the gl.
