Master of Professional Accounting and Business
Why study the Master of Professional Accounting and Business at UNE?
This award is a conversion course that will enable students to gain professional qualifications in accounting. It is of particular relevance to non-graduates who are required by the Professional Accounting organisations to complete 16 Unit Masters Program. Such applicants may gain entry via completion of the Graduate Certificate in Accounting with a grade point average of five. The course covers introductory as well as advanced units in financial and management accounting, finance, tax and company law and auditing. It also covers four general business subjects. On successful completion graduates can apply for Associate Membership of the Professional Accounting Organisations. The course is accredited by the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia, CPA Australia and the National Institute of Accountants.
Career Opportunities
The MPA and Business is designed as a graduate conversion course for students seeking to switch careers to accounting. Graduates are eligible for associate membership of the professional accounting bodies. Once they have completed the professional studies required by those accounting organisations they will qualify for full membership.

1. Admission to Candidature
1.1. This course is available on a fee-paying basis only.
1.2. Applicants for admission to candidature for the degree of Master of Professional Accounting and Business shall:
(a) have fulfilled all the requirements for admission to a degree or qualification of equivalent standing at this or another university or tertiary institution; or
(b) have completed the Graduate Certificate in Accounting or any graduate certificate as approved by the course coordinator; or
(c) have completed the Graduate Diploma in Accounting or any graduate diploma as approved by the course coordinator.
1.3. An applicant for candidature shall apply to the Program Director on the prescribed form.
1.4. Admission to candidature and the date of commencement of candidature shall be determined by the School.
2. Approval of Course of Study
After admission to candidature, a candidate shall have a course of study approved by the course coordinator.
3. Requirements for the Master of Professional Accounting and Business
3.1. To satisfy the requirements for the Master of Professional Accounting and Business, a candidate shall:
(a) complete a program of study approved by the course coordinator; and
(b) complete such written assignments and tasks as are prescribed and pass any examination as is prescribed in each unit of the course of study.
3.2. Except with the permission of the course coordinator the course work program shall include the following GSB units amounting to 96 credit points comprising: GSB 600, 641, 642, 644, 701, 703, 711, 721, 728, 731, 738, 741, 743, 748, 749, 750.

4. Exit Pathways
4.1. Master of Professional Accounting Exit Point
Candidates who enrol in the Master of Professional Accounting and Business and complete 72 credit points from the units specified in 3.2 (excluding GSB 721, 725, 731, 738) may apply to exit with a Master of Professional Accounting. Such graduates who then wish to complete the Master of Professional Accounting and Business must re-apply for admission.
4.2. Graduate Diploma in Accounting Exit Point
Candidates who enrol in the Master of Professional Accounting and Business and complete 48 credit points from units specified in 3.2 (excluding GSB 721, 725, 731, 738) may apply to exit with a Graduate Diploma in Accounting. Such graduates who then wish to complete the Master of Professional Accounting and Business must re-apply for admission.
4.3. Graduate Certificate in Accounting Exit Point
Candidates who enrol in the Master of Professional Ac counting and Business and complete 24 credit points from units specified in 3.2 (excluding GSB 721, 725, 731, 738) may apply to exit with a Graduate Certificate in Accounting. Such graduates who then wish to complete the Master of Professional Accounting and Business must re-apply for admission.
5. Advanced Standing
5.1. The course coordinator may grant candidate advanced standing for:
(a) up to 48 credit points on the basis of units that have been counted towards another postgraduate qualification at this or another university provided they have a reasonable degree of correspondence to units prescribed for the course work program and, if the candidate does not have a first degree; provided a minimum of Credit grade average is achieved in such units to the value of 24 credit points; or
(b) up to 48 credit points on the basis of postgraduate units that have not been counted towards any qualification provided they have a reasonable degree of correspondence to units prescribed for the course work program; or
(c) up to 24 credit points for other significant learning which the Faculty considers equivalent to units prescribed for the course work program; or
(d) up to 24 credit points for units completed towards the Graduate Certificate in Accounting or an appropriate Graduate Certificate and, if the candidate does not have a first degree, provided a minimum of Credit grade average is achieved in these units; or
(e) up to 48 credit points for units completed towards the Graduate Diploma in Accounting or an appropriate Graduate Diploma.
5.2. The total amount of advanced standing under Rule 5.1. will not exceed 48 credit points.
5.3. The course coordinator may grant a candidate advanced standing for up to 72 credit points for units completed towards the Master of Professional Accounting or equivalent at this University and not otherwise counted towards the Master of Professional Accounting and Business.
