Why study the Master of Commerce (Professional Accounting) at UNE?

The Master of Commerce (Professional Accounting) forms part of the professional educational requirements for membership of the National Institute of Accountants (NIA). It represents stage 2 of the Program in which students who have attained Member of National Institute of Accountants (MNIA) status can progress to Professional National Accountant (PNA) status. It is an eight unit course comprising four core units and four electives.

Entry Requirements

To be eligible for admission in the Master of Commerce (Professional Accounting), a candidate must have completed a three year degree or its equivalent in a relevant discipline or completed the requirements for the Graduate Certificate in Professional Accounting at this or another University.

In addition, applicants must provide evidence of membership of the National Institute of Accountants.

Additional Requirements

Original documents or certified transcripts (and evidence of change of name, if applicable)

Copy of NIA Membership Renewal Notice must accompany this form (original documents will be returned)

Birth certificate or evidence of Australian citizenship/ permanent residency

Evidence of English proficiency:

Those applicants whose previous education was not in English must provide evidence of English Proficiency.

Advanced Standing

At the discretion of the Course Coordinator, up to 24 cp may be granted as advanced standing on the basis of units that have been successfully completed towards a postgraduate qualification at UNE or another university.

Fast Track

The trimester system allows students to study over three teaching periods each year.

These Course Rules & Plans are ONLY to be used if you Commenced, Transferred or Changed Versions in the Master of Commerce (Professional Accounting) in 2010.

To qualify for the award a candidate shall complete a total of 48 credit points.

To be eligible for admission in the Master of Commerce (Professional Accounting), a candidate must have completed a three year degree or its equivalent in a relevant discipline or completed the requirements for the Graduate Certificate in Professional Accounting at this or another University. In addition, applicants must provide evidence of membership of the National Institute of Accountants.

Candidates shall complete an approved program of study as outlined in the Course Schedule comprising:

Period of Candidature

Candidates are required to complete their studies in not less than three trimesters and not more than eight trimesters.
In exceptional circumstances, the school may extend the period of candidature for a period or periods totalling not more than two trimesters.
