Master of Agriculture
Why study the Master of Agriculture at UNE?
The Master of Agriculture is a course work only program designed for students with a strong science-based bachelors in the fields of animal, plant, chemical and environmental sciences who wish to obtain specialist professional knowledge and skills in agriculture. The course is designed to equip graduates for professional standing and employment in a range of areas of agriculture, or who anticipate employment with professional responsibility for agricultural policy formation, or a role of equivalent standing in agriculture in non-government or government capacity. It also offers a mechanism whereby students with a generalist degree such as the Bachelor of Science, to move into the agricultural sector.
Career Opportunities
There are opportunities in advisory and management roles in agricultural extension and property management; departments of primary industry; soil conservation; rural banking; private consultants; feed and fertilizer manufacturers; rural journalism; etc. providing advice on scientific, technical and economic matters.

| Entry Requirements | The minimum requirement for admission to candidature is a three-year degree in a field related to agriculture. It is possible to transfer to Master of Agriculture candidature on completion of units to the value of 12 credit points towards the Graduate Diploma in Rural Science. |

| Advanced Standing | Advanced standing is not granted for units taken to meet course admission requirements (except for an approved articulation in the course). The maximum advanced standing shall be for units counting 24 credit points which are deemed to be equivalent to units offered by UNE and approved for the course comprising: (a) 24 credit points for units completed at UNE and not more than 12 credit points at undergraduate level; or (b) 24 credit points for units completed in NSW TAFE Graduate Vocational Certificate in Rural Extension and Community Development; or (c) 24 credit points for units completed from another institution and not counted towards an awarded qualification; or (d) 6 credit points on the basis of considerable professional experience. (e) There shall be no maximum advanced standing on the basis of units completed at this University that have not counted towards a qualification. (f) There shall be no advanced standing awarded for RUSC595. |

1. Admission to Candidature
A candidate shall:
(a) hold a bachelor degree from a recognised University in a discipline related to Agriculture or Rural Science; or
(b) hold at least 12 credit points towards the Graduate Diploma in Rural Science or equivalent; or
(c) satisfy the school by means of other qualifications and relevant experience of adequate preparation for candidature.
2. Course Requirements
To qualify for the award, a candidate shall pass 48 credit points of which 36 credit points should be at 500-level from the Elective Units or as approved by the course coordinator.
With course coordinator approval the student is permitted to undertake part or the entire project off-campus.
3. Period of Candidature
The maximum period of candidature shall be:
(a) one year as a full-time candidate;
(b) four years as a part-time candidate;
(c) in exceptional circumstances and on the recommendation of the candidate's supervisor, the period of candidature may be extended.
4. Advanced Standing
Advanced standing is not granted for units taken to meet course admission requirements (except for an approved articulation in the course).

5. Exit Pathways
On completion of 24 credit points, exit with the Graduate Certificate in Rural Science.
