Master of Arts in Applied Linguistics with Honours
Why study the Master of Arts in Applied Linguistics with Honours at UNE?
Applied Linguistics is a field which explores how language functions in the world, how language is learnt by children and adults and how people from different cultural backgrounds manage to communicate. This online degree will appeal to students wanting a professionally relevant higher qualification who do not have a background in Linguistics, as well as those considering postgraduate careers in the growing fields of Applied Linguistics and TESOL. The Master of Arts in Applied Linguistics with Honours program combines eight units of coursework in core areas of Linguistics and Applied Linguistics (6 credit points each for a total of 48 credit points), together with a 24 credit point dissertation. The dissertation provides research training through preparation (under the guidance of a supervisor) of a substantial dissertation on a topic of special interest in Linguistics or Applied Linguistics. Students who obtain a good grade (at least Second Class Honours First Division) in Master of Arts in Applied Linguistics with Honours are well equipped to continue to a higher research degree, such as a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), in Linguistics or allied fields. The degree can be completed in three semesters of full-time study. The degree is delivered in a fully on-line learning environment using Discussion boards and other web-based resources. This online format allows all Masters students to participate equally, regardless of the time or place.
