Graduate Diploma in Health Management

Why study the Graduate Diploma in Health Management at UNE?

This course aims to equip students with the knowledge required for senior management and planning positions in hospitals and other health facilities. The Diploma is designed to allow graduates who have fairly extensive experience in the health services area to direct their focus to health management as their career prospects and aspirations change.

A candidate must: (a) hold a degree of a university in a field other than health management and have relevant professional experience in a health-related area approved by the Faculty; or (b) hold the Graduate Certificate in Health Management from The University of New England; or (c) have professional standing and successful professional practice relevant to the award.

These Course Rules & Plans are ONLY to be used if you Commenced, Transferred or Changed Versions in the Graduate Diploma in Health Management in 2010.

1. Admission to Candidature
A candidate shall:
(a) hold a degree of a university in a field other than health management and have relevant professional experience in a health related area approved by the school; or
(b) hold the Graduate Certificate in Health Management from The University of New England; or
(c) have professional standing or successful practice relevant to the award.

2. Course Requirements
2.1. (a) To qualify for the award, a candidate admitted under Rules 1.(a) or 1.(c) shall pass 48 credit points as specified in Rules 2.1.(b) and 5.
(b) The course shall comprise:
(i) all units in Group 1;
(ii) six credit points from Group 2;
(iii) six credit points from Group 3.

2.2. To qualify for the award, a candidate admitted under Rule 1.(b) shall pass 24 credit points from Groups 1, 2 or 3 as specified by the school.

3. Period of Candidature
The maximum period of candidature shall be:
(a) two years as a full-time candidate;
(b) four years as a part-time candidate.

4. Progress and Conduct
Refer to the University General Rule on Academic Progress.

5. Units Offered
All units listed below for this award have a value of six credit points.
Group 1
HSHM 412, 421, 431, 440, 441, 443; or any other unit approved by the school.
Group 2
HSHM 451; or any other unit approved by the school.
Group 3
HSHM 400, 542; or any other unit approved by the school.

Candidates shall complete an approved program of study as outlined in the Course Schedule comprising:
