| Benefits | Concurrent Enrolment with the Bachelor of Science: After completion of two years of study (96 credit points) towards the degree of Bachelor of Science, students may enrol concurrently for the Graduate Diploma in Geographic Information Science. The Graduate Diploma will not be awarded until the Bachelor degree has been completed. Articulation from the Graduate Certificate in Geographic Information Science: On completion of the Graduate Certificate, students are able to articulate to the Graduate Diploma. All units counted towards the Graduate Certificate will count towards the Graduate Diploma. Articulation to the Master of Geographic Information Science: On completion of the Graduate Diploma, students are able to articulate to the Master program with 24 cp (no more than 12 cp will be for undergraduate level units) of advanced standing for units completed towards the Graduate Diploma. |

| Advanced Standing | Advanced standing is not granted for units taken to meet course admission requirements (except for an approved articulation in the course). The maximum advanced standing shall be for units counting 24 credit points which are deemed to be equivalent to units offered by UNE and approved for the course comprising: (a) 24 credit points for units completed at UNE and not more than 12 credit points at undergraduate level; or (b) 24 credit points for units completed from another institution and not counted towards an awarded qualification; or (c) 6 credit points on the basis of considerable professional experience. (d) There shall be no maximum advanced standing on the basis of units completed at this University that have not counted towards a qualification. (e) There shall be no advanced standing awarded for NR595. |

1. Admission
A candidate shall:
(a) hold a bachelor degree from a recognised University in a discipline related to Environmental Science or Environmental Management or Natural Resources; or
(b) hold at least 12 credit points towards the Graduate Certificate in Natural Resources or Geographic Information Science or equivalent; or
(c) satisfy the school by means of other qualifications and relevant experience of adequate preparation for candidature.
2. Course Requirements
To qualify for the award, a candidate shall pass 48 credit points including EM334/534, EM432/532, EM433/533 and NR331/531 and 24 credit points at 200-level or above from the Elective Units or as approved by the course coordinator.
NR595 can be included in the study program, with Head of School approval, if the student has located a suitable supervisor for the project.
3. Period of Candidature
The maximum period of candidature shall be:
(a) one year as a full-time candidate;
(b) four years as a part-time candidate;
(c) in exceptional circumstances and on the recommendation of the candidate's supervisor, the period of candidature may be extended.
4. Advanced Standing
Advanced standing is not granted for units taken to meet course admission requirements (except for an approved articulation in the course).
The maximum advanced standing shall be for units counting 24 credit points which are deemed to be equivalent to units offered by UNE and approved for the course comprising:
(a) 24 credit points for units completed at UNE and not more than 12 credit points at undergraduate level; or
(b) 24 credit points for units completed from another institution and not counted towards an awarded qualification; or

5. Exit Pathways
On completion of 24 credit points exit with the Graduate Certificate in Geographic Information Science.
6. Award of Degree
A student who has successfully completed NR595 will be awarded the Graduate Diploma at the level of Pass or Credit or Distinction or High Distinction.
A student who does not complete NR595 will be awarded the Graduate Diploma without a level.
