Graduate Certificate in World Religions
Why study the Graduate Certificate in World Religions at UNE?
The course comprises comparative studies in religion with an emphasis on major world religions (Hinduism, Judaism, Buddhism, Christianity and Islam), offering advanced study in areas such as Islam, Buddhism, early Judaism and Christianity and their scriptures, the Crusades, ancient Mediterranean religions, issues in modern church history, women and world religions, and more. Units of study encourage a critical and open attitude to all religions; offer a breadth of methods drawn from history, philosophy, sociology, political and literary theory; are concerned with both traditional and contemporary expressions of religion; and focus on the part religions play within social and political life.
Career Opportunities
The course will be particularly helpful for those teaching or wishing to teach the Studies in Religion syllabus within secondary schools. It will also enhance the career opportunities for those wishing to practice professions which deal with clients from multi-cultural groups in Australia and internationally - legal professionals, medical professionals, counsellors and social workers, those involved in international business, department of foreign affairs, international volunteer and aid agencies, the tourism industry, and many more.

1. Admission to Candidature
An applicant for admission to candidature shall either:
(a) hold a Bachelor degree or equivalent of a university or other institution recognised by the university; or
(b) hold a three-year advanced diploma relevant to the award; or
(c) hold a two-year diploma and have relevant professional experience.
2. Course Requirements
To qualify for the Graduate Certificate, a candidate shall complete an approved program of study, as outlined in the Course Schedule, comprising a total of 24 credit points.
3. Period of Candidature
3.1. The normal period of candidature for full-time students is one semester.
3.2. Part-time candidates shall complete course requirements in not more than four semesters.
4. Advanced Standing
Not more than six credit points of advanced standing may be granted toward the Graduate Certificate.
