Overview

This course will introduce students to the issues and challenges as well as strategies for addressing these in the area of international education and development, in particular international schooling and its social and cultural, global and local contexts. The course will also provide a flexible pathway for candidates who may wish to pursue Master of Education (International Schooling, Education and Development).

Intensive mandatory schools may be a requirement of some of the units in this course. See Unit Catalogue for specific requirements.

Entry Requirements

A candidate shall:

(a) hold a three or four year pre-service teaching qualification of a recognized University or tertiary institution; or

(b) hold a bachelor degree and a one or two year pre-service teaching qualification of a recognized University; or

(c) satisfy the School by means of other qualifications and relevant experience of adequate preparation for candidature; and,

(d) comply with the University's English Language requirements.

Practical, Clinical or Work Experience

Work related experience is highly relevant to the learning of the units of study in this course and the new unit EDCX555 has an assessment task related to workplace settings. .

Advanced Standing

At the discretion of the School, on the recommendation of the Course Coordinator and except for (c), a candidate may be granted a maximum of 12 credit points of advanced standing for:

(a) units that have been counted towards another postgraduate qualification at this or another University;

(b) units that have not counted towards another postgraduate qualification that have been completed at another University; and

(c) there shall be no maximum advanced standing on the basis of units that have not counted towards another postgraduate qualification that have been completed at this University.

Period of Candidature

The period of candidature shall be:
(a) a minimum of one year as a part-time candidate;
(b) a maximum of two years as a part-time candidate.

Course Requirements

To qualify for the award, and except with the permission of the School, a candidate shall pass 24 credit points at 500-level from the following units:
(i) EDCX555; and
(ii) 18 credit points from EDCX 542, 547, 548, 560

Award of Degree

A candidate who meets the course requirements shall be admitted to the Graduate Certificate in International Schooling, Education and Development.
