The Graduate Certificate in Computer Science is the first award level of a fully articulated program which gives qualified applicants the opportunity for study at three progressive levels: Graduate Certificate in Computer Science, Graduate Diploma in Computer Science; Master of Computer Science.
The Graduate Certificate will be awarded at the level of Pass, Pass with Credit, Pass with Distinction or Pass with High Distinction depending on the level of academic achievement.

1. Admission to Candidature
An applicant for admission to candidature for the certificate shall:
(a) have fulfilled all the requirements for admission to a degree, or an equivalent qualification, acceptable to the faculty as sufficient qualification for admission to candidature; or
(b) satisfy the school by means of other qualifications and/or relevant experience that adequate preparation for candidature has been made.
2. Program of Study
Each program of study shall comprise units at 200-level or above to the value of 24 credit points.
3. Requirements for the Graduate Certificate in Computer Science
All applicants for admission to candidature for the Graduate Certificate in Computer Science shall either have completed the units COMP 131, 132 and AMTH 140, or shall satisfy the school that they have experience in Computer Science and Mathematics at a standard approximately equivalent to those units. In the absence of this background, the school may prescribe one or more units. These units shall be additional to the 24 credit points required for the graduate certificate.
4. Period of Candidature
Unless otherwise determined by the school in special circumstances, the course work program shall be completed in one semester of full-time study or in not more than four consecutive semesters of part-time study.
5. Advanced Standing
Advanced standing is not granted for units taken to meet course admission requirements (except for an approved articulation in the course).
The maximum advanced standing shall be for units counting 6 credit points which are deemed to be equivalent to units offered by the University and approved for the course comprising:
(a) 6 credit points for units completed at the University; or
(b) 6 credit points for units completed from another institution.
6. Exemption
6.1. A candidate may be granted exemption from units counting up to 12 credit points on the basis of his or her previous completion of units prescribed for the course work program concerned or equivalent units.
6.2. Such a candidate shall complete alternative units prescribed by the school on the recommendation of the course coordinator concerned.
7. Award of Certificate
A successful candidate shall be awarded the certificate at one of four levels, Pass, Credit, Distinction or High Distinction.
