Overview

The course is a multi-disciplinary program that develops a comprehensive understanding of the academic and applied aspects of sport, health and fitness. Building on a foundation of core knowledge the flexible programme includes studies in human biology, physiology, biomechanics, psychology, health, nutrition, sports coaching, fitness training and the sociological and historical dimensions of sport and physical activity. Graduates can apply the practical skills and the intellectual capacities gained from this course to a diverse range of challenging careers such as, sports development, sports management, health and fitness consultant, coaching, education, and health promotion or continue with further postgraduate study.

Normal admission requirements apply. Assumed knowledge is Mathematics and recommended study is Biology and/or Chemistry.

International students must satisfy the UNE English language proficiency requirements as set out in the "Policy on English Language Requirements for Admission".

Examples include sport development, sport management, health and fitness consultant, coaching, education, and health promotion or continue with further postgraduate study and pursue an academic career.

The Bachelor of Sports Science does not lead directly to an accredited qualification; the professional body Exercise and Sports Science Australia (ESSA) does not accredit Sports Science courses. The course provides a comprehensive understanding of the academic and applied aspects of sport, health and exercise that create career opportunities for graduates spanning many sport and leisure related professions and industries.

Admission to Candidature

Normal admission requirements apply. Assumed knowledge is Mathematics and recommended study is Biology and/or Chemistry.

International students must satisfy the UNE English Language proficiency requirements as set out in the Policy on English Language Requirements for Admission.

Advanced Standing

Advanced standing may be granted in accordance with the UNE Advanced Standing Policy.

Period of Candidature

The maximum period of candidature shall be:
(a) 3 years as a full-time candidate;
(b) 8 years as a part-time candidate.

Program of Study

To qualify for the award a candidate shall pass a total of 144 credit points with not more than 60 credit points at 100-level.

Candidates shall complete an approved program of study as outlined in the Course Schedule comprising:

Exit Pathways

Candidates who discontinue their studies in the course may be eligible to exit with the Diploma in The Sciences on completion of 48 credit points or the Advanced Diploma in The Sciences on completion of 72 credit points.
