Overview

The course is designed as a multi-disciplinary program which integrates theoretical and practical components of physical activity including studies in human biology, anatomy, physiology, exercise physiology, pathophysiology, biomechanics, psychology, motor learning, nutrition, fitness trainer and sports coaching. The course also provides opportunities for students to gain valuable industry experience. They will have the opportunity to apply their knowledge of exercise science to professional practice in clinical and community environments. Graduates may find employment in a variety of areas related to sports science, exercise science, management in leisure and recreation, community and corporate fitness, and associated with sport (strength and conditioning, coaching, sports administration). As part of this course students will need to undertake work experience in the practicum units.

International students must satisfy the UNE English language proficiency requirements as set out in the "Policy on English Language Requirements for Admission".

Admission to Candidature

Normal admission requirements apply. Assumed knowledge is Mathematics and recommended study is Biology and/or Chemistry.

International students must satisfy the UNE English Language proficiency requirements as set out in the Policy on English Language Requirements for Admission.

Advanced Standing

Advanced standing may be granted in accordance with the UNE Advanced Standing Policy.

Period of Candidature

The maximum period of candidature shall be:
(a) 3 years as a full-time candidate;
(b) 8 years as a part-time candidate.

Program of Study

To qualify for the award a candidate shall pass a total of 144 credit points with not more than 60 credit points at 100-level.

Candidates shall complete an approved program of study as outlined in the Course Schedule comprising:

Exit Pathways

Candidates who discontinue their studies in the course may be eligible to exit with the Diploma in The Sciences on completion of 48 credit points or the Advanced Diploma in The Sciences on completion of 72 credit points.
