Advanced Diploma in The Sciences
Why study the Advanced Diploma in The Sciences at UNE?
This course is designed to provide students with a coherent program of study in a range of disciplines in science. Graduates will have a broad scientific background to assist with future employment or to pursue further study. Students may complete one of the approved majors or design their own program of study in consultation with academic staff, taking into account their background knowledge and interests.
Graduates are awarded the Advanced Diploma in the course work program completed, for example, those who complete the Biomedical Science program will be awarded the Advanced Diploma in The Sciences (Biomedical Science).
Career Opportunities
Advanced Diploma in Science graduates will have a broad scientific background to pursue further study or to assist with future employment in a range of areas requiring a basic knowledge of a particular area of science.

Advanced standing will be granted for units which are deemed to be equivalent to units offered by the University and approved for the course as follows: (a) a maximum of 36 credit points for units completed at the University or another institution; or (b) no limit will apply to advanced standing which is granted for units completed at the University and which have not been counted towards another qualification. |

1. Admission to Candidature
An applicant for the Advanced Diploma shall:
(a) hold a diploma of the university, or an equivalent qualification; or
(b) have satisfied the school by means of qualifications and/or related experience, that the equivalent standard of Rule 1.(a) has been achieved.
2. Advanced Standing
Advanced standing is not granted for units taken to meet course admission requirements (except where approved for units completed as part of the UNE Pathways Enabling Course or the TRACKS tertiary preparation program or an approved articulation in the course).
Advanced standing will be granted for units which are deemed to be equivalent to units offered by the University and approved for the course as follows:
(a) a maximum of 36 credit points for units completed at the University or another institution; or
(b) no limit will apply to advanced standing which is granted for units completed at the University and which have not been counted towards another qualification.
3. Program of Study
3.1. The student shall:
(a) pursue a course work program approved in advance by the relevant course coordinator and comprising units from those listed in the rules for the Bachelor of Computer Science or Bachelor of Environmental Science or Bachelor of Natural Resources or Bachelor of Science; or
(b) complete one of the prescribed course work programs listed in Rule 4.
3.2. The study program shall comprise units counting 72 credit points of which not more than 24 credit points shall be at 100-level.
3.3. In special circumstances, and with the approval of the relevant course coordinator, others units available from subjects offered within the University may be substituted for one or more of the units listed in Rule 4.

5. Period of Candidature
The maximum period of candidature shall be:
(a) not less than three consecutive semesters of full-time study;
(b) 10 consecutive semesters of part-time study.
